Supriya Sule, Member of Parliament from Baramati constituency expressed her apprehension regarding the continuous traffic congestion on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, also known as the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway.

In order to highlight this concern, she shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday evening. Sule earnestly appealed to the Maharashtra government to promptly tackle and find a solution to this persisting problem.

She expressed, “During my journey from Mumbai to Pune via the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, I encountered major traffic congestion in the ghat region. This route was once known for its seamless travel, but now it has become a source of trouble due to traffic jams. I urge the state government to take prompt action and resolve this problem to ease the discomfort of commuters.”

A user stated that on Saturday, they embarked on a journey along this highway at 3am. However, they encountered a 10km section in the ghat that was heavily congested. It took them 1.2 hours to navigate through this particular stretch, which is deemed unacceptable, particularly considering the fact that they paid over ₹300 for the expressway.

The issue of heavy vehicles not adhering to lane regulations has been brought up by another user, who proposed implementing stringent rules and imposing hefty penalties on truck drivers. According to him, this is the only way to address the problem effectively. The government should consider his suggestion and take necessary actions to ensure lane discipline among truck drivers.

Another individual highlighted the delay in the progress of infrastructure development in relation to the increase in population within the state. They pointed out that Maharashtra has a history of lagging behind in infrastructure development when it comes to accommodating the growth in population. It is a common occurrence for us to commence construction of infrastructure only after realizing that it is already too late.
