Suresh Gosavi Appointed as Vice-Chancellor of SPPU

Suresh Wamangir Gosavi, a senior professor at the Department of Physics and Head of the Department of Environmental Science at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of the university after a wait of over a year. 

The announcement was made by Ramesh Bais, the Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of public universities, on Tuesday.

In addition to the appointment of Suresh Gosavi as the V-C of SPPU, Ravindra Kulkarni has been appointed as the V-C of Mumbai University, and Sanjay Ghanshyam Bhave has been appointed as the V-C of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli.

Among the 27 candidates who applied for the V-C position, the Vice-Chancellor search committee shortlisted Prof Sanjay Dhole, Prof Gosavi, Prof Parag Kalkar, and Prof Avinash Kumbhar from SPPU, along with Prof Vijay Phulari from Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

The Governor conducted interviews with all five shortlisted candidates on May 26.

Suresh Gosavi, who completed his MSc and PhD from the University of Pune (now SPPU), has a strong academic background and has presented research papers in various subjects. His research interests include lithography and pattern transfer using plasma polymerization, dry electron beam synthesis, multi-electron beam lithography system design.
