Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) has embarked on a significant expansion drive with the ground-breaking of a new manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana. The upcoming plant, located within the Industrial Model Township (IMT) set up by HSIIDC, marks a strategic move to scale up production and support India’s fast-growing two-wheeler market.

The company has earmarked an initial investment of Rs 1,200 crore for this greenfield project, which spans 100 acres. Of this, 25 acres will be dedicated to manufacturing operations, with another 25 acres reserved for environmental initiatives such as green belts and open spaces. The facility is expected to be fully operational by 2027 and will have the capacity to produce 7.5 lakh (750,000) units per year in its initial phase.

Senior representatives from Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, including SMIPL Managing Director Kenichi Umeda, attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony. They were joined by local government officials like Dr. Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Sonipat, and Kyoko Hokugo, Minister for Economic Affairs at the Japanese Embassy in India.

Speaking at the event, Kenichi Umeda emphasized the company’s commitment to regional and national development: “With this facility at Kharkhoda, we aim to support local progress, foster job creation, and align ourselves with the government’s broader vision for industrial growth,” he noted.

Umeda also shed light on the forward-thinking design of the plant: “The entire facility is being developed with a focus on efficient, streamlined production methods. Alongside advanced automation and energy-saving systems, this plant will be a major step towards Suzuki’s ambition to reduce carbon emissions and embrace sustainable manufacturing.”

Once operational, the new factory is expected to create job opportunities for nearly 2,000 people, making it a key contributor to regional employment. It will also play a crucial role in strengthening Suzuki’s logistics network, enhancing after-sales support, and deepening its collaboration with local suppliers and dealers.

Suzuki Motorcycle India currently offers a strong portfolio of scooters and motorcycles in India, with popular models like the Access 125, Avenis, Burgman Street 125, Gixxer series, and V-Strom SX catering to a diverse customer base.

In a market as dynamic as India, SMIPL’s upcoming Kharkhoda facility is more than just a new plant—it’s a long-term investment in growth, sustainability, and community development. With this project, Suzuki reinforces its commitment to manufacturing excellence while helping shape a cleaner, more connected future for Indian mobility.
