‘Talanoa Dialogue’ held to discuss ‘Carbon Neutral PMR roadmap

‘Talanoa Dialogue ‘ on Carbon Neutral PMR was organised at Center For Development Studies and Activities (CDSA) on Thursday 16 December 2021. ‘Carbon Neutral PMR roadmap’ was discussed in conference.Talanoa is a traditional word used in Fiji and across the Pacific to reflect a process of inclusive, participatory and transparent dialogue. The purpose of Talanoa is to share stories, build empathy and to make wise decisions for the collective good.

In 2020 a roadmap was developed by climate collective Pune -a think tank, Roadmap focuses on making the Pune metropolitan region go carbon neutral. That inputs were discussed in conference.
Samuchit enviro tech,Laya Resource Center, Indian Network on Ethics and Climate change, CCP Environmental Foundation, organised this round table conference.

20 experts from different organizations, civil society were participated in conference.

Dr.Priyadardhini Karve, Aneeta Beninger,Sujit Patvardhan,Dr.Amitav Malik, Dr.Vineeta Apte,Shailaja Deshpande,Aditi Kale,Dr Poorva Keskar,Pournima Agarkar ,Aneeta Kane participated and presented their views.
Pournima Agarkar set the background on why they are calling it Talanoa Dialogue and how it integrates with the overall sustainability of the city.
Amitav Malik said, “Without carbon neutrality,no buisness can be possible in future. We are facing sudden changes,that we never faced before. We have to find sustainable solutions , technology for carbon neutrality.”
Dr Priyadarshini Karve said, ‘Mapping impacts of climate change at local level is big task which need collective efforts.Young generation have to understand steps to achieve Carbon neutrality.”

Dr Aneeta Beninger said land use policy should change to reduce pressure on land.Otherwise it will be difficult to achieve environmental goals .We have to think about carrying capacity of City, development plan.we have to think on increasing urbanization.

Sujit Patwardhan said,’ Public Transport should strengthen. Electric vehicles is not only solution for Carbon mitigation.”
Aditi Kale said, ‘We have to reduce carbon emissions from human development.We have Target of making carbon neutral Pune PMR by 2030.” 

Emission reduction,Carbon mitigation,carbon sequestration are some important points in roadmap. Low Carbon infrastructure, circular economy prioritising efficiency in planning and policy will help.
