Teenager Dies, Two Injured After Car Crashes on Pune–Mumbai Expressway Near Shirgaon
Pune: Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By Luxury Bus On Katraj–Kondhwa Road In Pisoli
A late-night journey on the Pune–Mumbai Expressway turned fatal near Shirgaon when a car carrying three people collided with a vehicle ahead and then slammed into the median in the early hours of Wednesday. The impact resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy, while two others sustained serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Darshan Shah, a resident of Sangli district. He was travelling with his cousin Aditya Shah, 30, who was behind the wheel, and their family friend Ashwesh Sawant, 32, from Virar in Mumbai, both of whom were injured in the crash.
According to police officials from Shirgaon, the group had set out from Sangli at around 11 pm on Tuesday, heading towards Mumbai. The accident took place nearly four hours later, around 3 am, when their vehicle reached the Shirgaon stretch of the expressway.
Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have briefly fallen asleep, causing the car to first hit an unidentified vehicle moving ahead before losing control and striking the median. Police Sub-Inspector Naid Shaikh stated that this possibility is being considered as part of the ongoing investigation.
Darshan Shah died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. The injured passengers were quickly shifted to a nearby hospital, where Aditya Shah, who was driving, continues to receive medical treatment along with Ashwesh Sawant.
Authorities have confirmed that a case has been registered and further inquiry is underway to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the collision.
