Thalapathy Vijay Faces Legal Complaint for Alleged Insensitivity at Iftar Gathering
A complaint has been filed with the Chennai Police Commissioner against actor and politician Vijay, accusing him of disrespecting Muslims during a recent Iftar event. The Tamil Nadu Sunnath Jamaat, the group that filed the complaint, expressed their displeasure with the presence of individuals unrelated to the religious observance, including those they perceive as drunkards and rowdies, arguing that their presence undermined the sanctity of the occasion.
The Jamaat stated that the event, intended to foster goodwill, instead offended the Muslim community. Vijay’s failure to apologize for the incidents has further fueled concerns about his sensitivity and respect for religious sentiments.
According to News 18, the Jamaat also cited previous examples of poor organization, such as Vijay’s first political state conference in Vikravandi. They claimed that inadequate planning at the conference led to attendees suffering from dehydration.
The Jamaat alleges that similar negligence at the Iftar event led to unfortunate consequences. They criticized Vijay’s approach, accusing him of treating people with disrespect and employing foreign security guards who are insensitive to local customs. The Jamaat stressed that legal action is needed to prevent such incidents from happening again. They clarified that their complaint is not for publicity but to ensure that future gatherings are conducted with respect and dignity.
Thalapathy Vijay is currently working on his upcoming film, “Jana Nayagan” (meaning “Hero of the People”), directed by H. Vinoth. This film holds special significance as it’s Vijay’s 69th and final film before he enters politics. “Jana Nayagan” is a political action thriller featuring Vijay alongside a diverse cast. Pooja Hegde, who previously worked with Vijay in “Beast” (2022), plays the female lead.
Bollywood actor Bobby Deol plays the antagonist, making his second Tamil film appearance. The film also boasts a star-studded cast, including Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in important roles.
“Jana Nayagan” has been filmed in various locations, including Chennai and Payanoor. The team is dedicated to presenting a compelling story that will resonate with viewers.
Despite the controversy surrounding the recent Iftar event, Vijay remains focused on making “Jana Nayagan” a powerful film. The film boasts a talented technical crew, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music, Sathyan Sooryan handling cinematography, and Pradeep E. Ragav editing. The collaboration between Vijay and director H. Vinoth has generated much excitement, as fans eagerly anticipate this political action thriller.
“Jana Nayagan” is set to hit theaters on January 14, 2026, and it’s expected to be a major film in Vijay’s successful career. His previous film, “GOAT,” was an action movie. The review of “GOAT” highlighted that while the action scenes were well done, the music and cinematography were only average. The review specifically mentioned that the music, including a special song featuring Trisha, was disappointing. It also noted that the cinematography was just okay, with special effects being used extensively in most outdoor scenes.
“GOAT” is a film that caters to Vijay’s hardcore fans with its mass appeal and endless fan moments. However, for those seeking a more substantial film experience, it might feel average. Despite being Vijay’s 68th film in his 32-year career, “GOAT” is good but doesn’t quite live up to the title “Greatest Of All Times.”
