Tiger sighted at Sinhagad, claim Pune couple

A couple Pravin Vaichal and Pooja, residents of Warje Malwadi, have informed officials concerned that a tiger was sighted near the Kondhanpur Phata near Sinhagad fort on Thursday, October 13. A team of police and forest officers have been deployed and citizens have also been asked to avoid using the road.

The couple finished their walk and were returning around 5.30 pm when they claim they saw a tiger crossing the road, near the Golewadi area. Seeing the big cat, they got scared and stared shouting. They also alerted other tourists who were nearby.

Based on the information, the forest department and the local police department were alerted. The forest department has deployed additional staff members and also identified certain roads that can be used by such animals.

Rahul Patil, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune Forest Department. said, “After sighting the tiger, the couple came to the Haveli police station and gave information about it. Our staff member Sadashiv Shelar went to the spot and appealed to the citizens to be vigilant. Probe is on. However, we have advised citizens to avoid the area till we are sure the tiger is nowhere around. We are inspecting the footprints to ensure this and trying to get some clues.”
