A notification issued by the Collector’s office has banned heavy goods vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Highway today, from 11 pm on August 29 to 8 pm on August 30. This decision comes due to a scheduled tour program of Very Important Persons (VIPs) in Palghar district.
“The ban is necessary to ensure smooth passage for the VIPs and maintain traffic order,” said a senior official from the Collector’s office. The restriction applies to all heavy vehicles, including those carrying passengers, except for emergency vehicles, police vehicles, fire brigade vehicles, ambulances, and vehicles part of the program.
Dhanraj Jagtap, a Punawale resident, expressed frustration over the traffic jam on the Pune-Mumbai Highway. “I went to the underpass at Sameer Lawns in my car at 6:35 AM and saw a complete traffic jam on the highway leading from Bhumkar Chowk to Mukai Chowk. The service road was jammed due to big trucks. I was stuck in traffic for 15 minutes, delaying school buses. It’s unbearable for common people.”
Traffic Officer Sunil Pinjan acknowledged the issue, stating, “We issued a notification banning heavy vehicles yesterday, but some still entered the area, causing chaos. We’re working to improve the system.” Pinjan urged commuters to plan their routes accordingly and avoid traveling on the Mumbai-Pune Highway during the restricted period.
