Pune: The Shewalewadi Phata junction on the Pune-Solapur highway has become a hotspot for severe traffic congestion and frequent accidents, mainly due to the newly introduced U-turn at the location. BJP District General Secretary Rahul Shewale has urged authorities to implement a permanent solution to address these issues.

A formal memorandum was submitted to Shruti Naik from the National Highways Authority and senior traffic officer Amol Zhende. Following this, traffic officials, including Assistant Police Commissioner Sanjay Surve, Hadapsar Traffic Police Officer Dhananjay Pingale, and National Highways Engineer Atul Surve, inspected the junction. Authorities assured that measures will be taken to streamline traffic flow.

Rahul Shewale highlighted that the U-turn at Shewalewadi Phata is poorly designed, leading to accidents and constant congestion. The adjacent PMPML bus depot, with heavy bus traffic, further exacerbates the issue. Shewale recommended rerouting buses via Manjri Farm and deploying permanent traffic police personnel at the junction.

Shewale also emphasized the need to reopen a blocked puncture lane near Manjri Stud Farm, which has increased traffic strain at Shewalewadi Phata. Additionally, he called for the removal of encroachments and proper signal timings to ease traffic woes. Local residents and students are bearing the brunt of the congestion, making urgent action necessary.

Several local leaders, including Ashok More, Nandkumar Ghule, and Pravin Shewale, were present during the inspection and discussions.
