Traffic police, Pune Police, PMP to jointly address traffic issues in Pune

Pune: Various government organisations like Pune City Police, Traffic Branch, Municipal Corporation, Maha Metro and PMP have joined hands to find a solution for the traffic congestion in the city.  In the first phase, 15 congested roads have been selected which will be surveyed soon to arrive at a solution. 

A meeting was held at Pune City Police office on January 31 in the presence of Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Sandip Karnik, Deputy Transport Commissioner Vijaykumar Magar along with officials of Municipal Corporation, PMP, Mahametro, PMRDA and Smart City.

In this meeting, the problem of traffic congestion in the city and the measures to be taken were jointly discussed. 

Ritesh Kumar, Police Commissioner of Pune city police said, “We will work on solving the traffic congestion issue faced by residents of Pune on a daily basis. In the next 15 days, we will survey 15 roads and a report will be made.”

Vijay Kumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of traffic branch, who will be nodal officer of the initiative said, “The survey of roads will start from February 2. In the first phase,  15 roads which regularly face traffic congestion will be surveyed. The survey of Hadapsar to Mundhwa, Kharadi to Nagar road has been scheduled for 2 February. I will be taking responsibility as nodal office. And the reports will be prepared after the survey of every road. We will work together to solve the traffic congestion in Pune.”

Sanjay Kolte, CEO of Pune Smart City said that they would be working on signals and would be setting it up after consultation with the traffic police.  Hemant Sonawane, PRO of Maha Metro said that they would work along with the traffic department, Pune Police and PMC to solve the traffic congestion issues in the city.
