Shock gripped Pune on Thursday evening when a young woman lost her life after plunging from the terrace of a ground-plus-four-storey building near the historic Shaniwar Wada. The incident occurred around 6:30–6:45 pm in the bustling Budhwar Peth area, a location crowded with pedestrians and evening traffic, making the scene even more distressing for bystanders.

The woman, 19, lived in the building with her husband and in-laws, who run an eatery in the locality. Residents and passersby heard a loud thud and rushed to find her lying on the road. Vishrambaug Police promptly arrived and began investigating the case.

Early confusion arose as some residents did not recognize her, prompting questions about how she accessed the terrace, whether she was alone, and whether CCTV footage could shed light on her movements. Further investigation confirmed that she lived with her marital family.

Inspector Arun Ghodke of Vishrambaug Police stated that a note was recovered, believed to be written by the woman. In it, she mentioned that she was struggling to adjust to life at her in-laws’ house and had ongoing differences with them. Her maternal family lives in Ahilyanagar district, while her husband’s family is from Solapur. The couple had been married for about a year.

The building is situated on a narrow lane connecting Bajirao Road to Shivaji Road. Police are recording statements from her husband, in-laws, and other residents to understand the circumstances leading to the tragic event. Inspector Ghodke noted, “We are taking detailed statements from her husband, in-laws, and other individuals connected to the case so we can understand the circumstances that led to this tragic event.”
