A devastating incident occurred falling under the Kolathur police station limits in Chennai, where a 17-year-old class XII student lost his life in a laboratory experiment gone awry.

The tragic accident, believed to have been driven by the boy’s academic curiosity, resulted in a fatal explosion involving chemical substances.

• Aditya Pranav, 17, died in a home explosion while experimenting with chemicals alone at his Rajamangalam home.

• Mother succumbed to Covid-19.

According to police reports, the student was engaged in an experiment out of “academic interest” when the chemicals unexpectedly exploded, causing the room to collapse on him. Despite efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, authorities are closely examining the chemical substances used by the boy. The investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the mishap and ascertain any lapses in safety protocols.

The police, in a late-night release on Thursday, highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of the chemical substances involved. As forensic experts analyze the scene and the materials used, the case is under investigation pursuant to the provisions of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
