In a distressing turn of events, the Balewadi Welfare Federation has penned a compelling letter to the Senior Inspector of Police at Chatushringi Police Station, Pune, seeking justice for the untimely demise of Chandrakala Nursing Mirdude. The letter, addressing the tragic incident of electrocution on 4th June, 2024, highlights a blatant display of negligence on the part of government and semi-government authorities.

Chandrakala Nursing Mirdude tragically lost her life due to electrocution, a consequence of exposed live electrical wires near the Amartech Park Building in Balewadi, Pune. The Federation’s letter holds PMC, MSEDCL, PUNE METRO, SMART CITY and PMRDA accountable for the lack of safety measures, emphasising their failure to adhere to legal obligations and fundamental duties to safeguard citizens’ lives.

The scene of the incident paints a stark picture: electric wires strewn across footpaths, forcing pedestrians onto the streets and into harm’s way. Such disregard for safety not only poses a serious threat to public welfare but also reflects a systemic failure to uphold basic standards of infrastructure maintenance.

In light of these egregious oversights, the Balewadi Welfare Federation has called for immediate action, urging the lodging of a FIR under Section 304A of the IPC against the responsible authorities. The demand for accountability extends beyond bureaucratic entities to include individuals directly involved in the negligent act.
