Tragic Incident Strikes Two States: Pune Businessman Murdered in Karnataka, Wife Injured

A well-known entrepreneur from Pune was killed by four to five attackers in Hankon village early Sunday morning, between 4 and 5 AM. The victim, Vinayak Kashinath Naik, 52, was a resident of Hankon. His wife was also injured during the attack.

Vinayak Naik was a significant figure in Pune’s electrical and electronics industry. He had traveled to his hometown, Hankon in Karwar taluka, to celebrate the Satari Devi festival, which ran from September 10 to September 16. He extended his stay to observe his mother’s shraddha, a ritual honoring deceased ancestors.

On Sunday morning, around 5:30 AM, as they were preparing to return to Pune, four to five unknown assailants attacked them with knives, iron rods, and swords after arriving in a vehicle. Naik died at the scene.

During the attack, his wife, Vrushali Vinayak Naik, attempted to resist and was injured. The incident has been reported at the Sadashivgad police station. Karwar Superintendent of Police K. Narayan visited the site to assess the situation and has set up an investigation team led by Deputy Superintendent Girish. The investigation is ongoing.
