A tragic incident unfolded in Mumbai’s Malad late on March 26, as a 14-year-old girl took her own life due to distress over her first period.

As per the police report, the girl was unaware of the menstrual cycle, confided in her family about experiencing intense pain. Unable to endure the agony, she tragically ended her life by hanging herself in her room. Despite efforts to save her, she was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

Following a post-mortem examination that found no signs of foul play, the police announced plans to question the girl’s family and friends from school and the neighborhood. This heartbreaking event sheds light on the critical issue of menstrual education among teenagers, highlighting the necessity for comprehensive counseling on menstruation and its management.

Additionally, the friends and parents of the deceased will soon be questioned regarding the incident and further investigation will take place.

It reflects the urgency for educational initiatives and open conversations to dispel myths and alleviate anxieties surrounding menstruation, ultimately promoting mental well-being and preventing such tragedies in the future.
