Nestled in the picturesque foothills of Zabarwan, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar has achieved international recognition by securing a place in the World Book of Records (London) as Asia’s most expansive park of its kind.

Comprising a mesmerizing collection of 1.5 million tulip bulbs spanning 68 distinct varieties, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri proudly shared this achievement via X, formerly known as Twitter.

Drawing the admiration of countless visitors, the scenic garden has already welcomed a lakh of admirers, according to the Union Minister.

“‘Gar firdaus bar-rue zamin ast’. The picturesque paradise of tulips in Srinagar enters the World Book of Records as being Asia’s largest! 1.5 million tulip bulbs showcasing an astonishing collection of 68 distinct tulip varieties— attracting 100,000 visitors!” tweeted Hardeep Singh Puri, accompanied by a poetic couplet penned by Amir Khusro.

Located amidst the enchanting embrace of the Dal Lake and the Zabarwan hills, the tulip garden sprawls across an expansive 30 hectares of land, offering a panoramic view of its natural surroundings.

Beyond the awe-inspiring display of tulips, the garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh, also plays host to an assortment of other spring blossoms, including hyacinths, daffodils, muscari, and cyclamens.

The garden’s charm is amplified by the diverse array of 1.5 million tulip bulbs representing 68 unique varieties. Originally established as Siraj Bagh, the park was transformed into its current splendor in 2007, driven by the goal of nurturing floriculture and bolstering tourism within the enchanting Kashmir Valley. Constructed in a terraced fashion upon the sloping terrain, the garden is a visual masterpiece composed of seven terraces.

As a testament to its magnificence, the Jammu and Kashmir administration annually orchestrates the Tulip Festival, an event that serves as a platform to showcase the garden’s breathtaking floral spectrum. This celebration is a key component of the region’s tourism initiatives and coincides with the onset of spring, a time when nature generously adorns itself in vibrant hues.
