Carrying forward sustained grassroots efforts local leader Pramod Bhangire and former Corporator marked two significant milestones on December 15, 2015 laying the foundation stone for a grand 22-foot statue of Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at Raheja Vista Chowk, Mahadevwadi, and simultaneously initiating regular water supply from the Bhujbal water tank to Chintamani Nagar and surrounding localities. Together, the initiatives reflect a blend of cultural preservation and essential civic service.

The statue project has received unanimous approval from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s City Improvement Committee and General Body. The memorial will feature a towering full-length statue mounted on a seven-metre-high pedestal with an imposing canopy, designed to symbolise the valour, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Once completed, the monument at Raheja Circle is expected to emerge as a prominent cultural and historical landmark for Mahadevwadi and the wider Hadapsar region.

Civic officials noted that the memorial will not only honour the legacy of the Maratha warrior king but also inspire future generations with values of courage, sacrifice and nation-first thinking. With statutory approvals now in place, groundwork for the statue has begun, bringing a long-cherished demand of local residents closer to fulfilment.

At the same time, a long-pending basic need of residents was addressed with the commencement of drinking water supply from the Bhujbal water tank. Areas including Chintamani Nagar, Simply City, Sayyad Nagar lanes 1 to 22, and Sasane Vasti have now begun receiving regular water supply, effectively resolving a chronic issue faced by hundreds of families.

Speaking at the site, residents welcomed the development, calling it a “promise fulfilled ” that brings daily relief, especially to women and senior citizens who had struggled with water scarcity for years. The water supply initiative is expected to significantly improve health, hygiene and overall quality of life in the locality.

Together, the two initiatives—one rooted in heritage and the other in everyday civic necessity—underscore a development approach that balances identity, dignity and essential services, shaping a more liveable and culturally rooted Mahadevwadi–Undri belt.
