Two Pune Riders Shine At SCO Cup In Moscow: Tanay Gaikwad And Akshay Biyani Impress With Strong Performances
The SCO Cup, a prestigious international motorcycle racing event held in Moscow, saw racers from 15 countries competing across various categories. Representing India were Tanay Gaikwad from Pune and Akshay Biyani, both of whom delivered commendable performances in their respective categories.
Tanay Gaikwad, a seasoned racer with a career spanning since 2017, competed in the 1000cc superbike category aboard a Honda CBR1000RR. Tanay has a proven track record of victories in India and is currently participating in the Pro Stock 300-400 category of the MRF FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2024. In Moscow, despite tough international competition, he secured 9th place in the superbike category, making a notable mark for India. His participation was supported in part by the VFM Group from Bengaluru.
Akshay Biyani competed in the 600cc supersport category, marking his return to the racetrack after an 18-month hiatus due to a shoulder injury. Akshay, an industrial designer and motorcycle specialist by profession, began his racing journey in 2019 in the U.S., where he competed in the Midwest Championship, racing on top tracks like Road America and Brainerd International Circuit. After moving back to India for his surgery, Akshay made a strong comeback, finishing 5th in Moscow. He expressed excitement about improving his skills and training with talented Indian riders like Tanay Gaikwad and Sarthak Chavan.
Both riders demonstrated the growing prowess of Indian talent on the international racing stage, and their performances are a testament to India’s increasing presence in global motorsports.
