Pune: All the forty-one workers who had been trapped inside the Silkyari tunnel in Uttarakhand since November 12 were successfully rescued on Tuesday, November 28.

Upon their safe evacuation, the workers were adorned with garlands of orange marigold flowers and were warmly welcomed by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami and the Union Minister VK Singh.

As per the information provided, the workers who were trapped beyond the 260-meter mark, due to a collapse in a section of the tunnel between 205 and 260 meters from the Silkyara side, were successfully rescued. They were pulled out through a 57-meter steel pipe on stretchers equipped with wheels.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed relief as 41 workers were successfully rescued from the Uttarkashi tunnel. In a statement, she shared her happiness and relief upon hearing the news. She also acknowledged the workers’ endurance during their 17-day ordeal and the challenges they faced during the rescue operation.

President Murmu expressed gratitude towards the workers who built critical infrastructure, even at great personal risk, far away from their homes. She also congratulated the teams and experts who acted with incredible grit and determination during one of the most difficult rescue missions in history.
