Rare sighting in Mohorli zone delights tourists as tigress ‘W Mark’ and her cubs take over forest road
The Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, known for its frequent big-cat sightings, has once again offered tourists a breathtaking experience. A recent video from the Mohorli zone shows the cubs of the tigress ‘W Mark’ blocking traffic on both sides of the road, creating a once-in-a-lifetime sighting for safari-goers. The incident was filmed by Additional District Collector Gajendra Bawane about one and a half to two months ago.
The tigress ‘W Mark,’ named after the distinct W-shaped mark near her right eye, is among the most popular big cats in Tadoba. She currently has three cubs—two males and one female—who are increasingly being spotted near tourist routes. During a July sighting, her cubs stepped out onto the Mohorli road, lingered for a long time, drank from a roadside waterhole, and eventually settled on the road itself, halting vehicles on both sides.
While tiger sightings are common in Tadoba, this was the first time traffic was blocked by cubs in such a manner. Forest officials say the Mohorli route, being part of the buffer area with nearby villages, often sees both tourist jeeps and local vehicles, giving people frequent glimpses of the big cats.
Tourists and wildlife enthusiasts are now eagerly waiting for these cubs to become the highlight of the upcoming safari season. Officials, however, urge visitors to maintain discipline and avoid crowding or blocking tiger movements, as similar cases in other sanctuaries have led to legal action against careless guides and tourists.
