The first of its kind sports complex built in Wanowrie in 2016 has been lying neglected, unused by the Pune Municipal Corporation for the last five years. But as it is said there is light at the end of the tunnel, this complex will soon have sports lovers playing their favourite game of badminton, squash or even dance their heart out.

The sports complex which now houses a Covid care center (testing facility) will soon see sports enthusiasts making a bee line to play their favourite game.

When Pune Pulse spoke to Sanjay Warule, deputy commissioner, sports department, Pune Municipal Corporation, he said, “The work for issuing tenders is underway. Soon it will be made open for bidders. We are hoping that it starts soon and the public gets the place to use.”

Speaking to Pune Pulse, former Corporator of Wanowrie, Abhijit Chandrakant Shivarkar said, “It was built in a record time of 14 months. It is unfortunate that such a beautiful property lay unused for the last five years. It was two very nicely made badminton courts, two big halls for dance and yoga and ample parking space. The only work left at the complex was lights, which was not completed by anyone. I am happy to know that PMC is now working towards restoring its original use.”
