A day following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual inauguration of Pune Airport’s new integrated terminal building, a viral video showcasing food packets strewn across the premises has sparked controversy.

Among the dignitaries present were Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, and other representatives of the union and state government.

The Reddit post captioned, “Attendees litter Pune Airport with food packets provided during inauguration of new building,” triggered widespread criticism online. Users condemned the act of littering around the newly-inaugurated terminal building, pointing out the absence of visible trash cans. Discussions ensued regarding the cultural habits of littering and the efficacy of installing trash cans to combat such behavior.

The newly-constructed terminal spans 51,595 square meters with a passenger handling capacity of 9 million per annum, constructed at a cost of Rs 423 crore. Despite the inauguration, operations are expected to commence in four to five weeks as various national and international agencies conduct tests to ensure systems are operational before public use.
