On Wednesday, commuters at Warje’s Old Octroi Naka staged a protest against traffic jams, calling on the city to build a flyover and allocate special funds in the municipal budget for it.

As per further information, residents from Warje Pune & members from Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency participated in the protest at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk. The protest was held against the Pune Municipal Corporation not making provision in the budget for the year 2024-25 to solve the traffic congestion at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk and for the demand that a flyover must be built from Kakade City to Warje Highway.

On this occasion, MP Supriya Sule, Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Chandra Pawar’s Pune City President Prashant Jagtap, Khadakwasla Assembly Constituency President Sopan Kaka Chavan, Kothrud Assembly Constituency President Swapnil Dudhane, former corporator Sachin Dodke, Lakshmi Dudhane, Kishore Kamble along with members and activists of Maha Vikas Aghadi were present.

During peak hours, commuters have reported additional problems due to heavy vehicle movement, traffic on the Pune-Mumbai highway, and bottlenecks, particularly at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk. They added that the junction’s narrow road makes it challenging for cars to navigate.

According to a local resident, commuting in these areas is difficult. When building a flyover nearby, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) ought to have taken this into consideration. Planning ahead would have been beneficial.

The demonstrators claim that although the PMC promised to build a second flyover after the one near the Vandevi temple was completed ten years ago, work on the second flyover has not even started.

According to an ex-corporator, there is no budgetary allocation for the project, which makes it unclear if the PMC is truly interested in moving forward with it. This problem can only be solved by a flyover.
