Viral Video: Fortuner Gets Stuck at Goa’s Vagator Beach, Nearly Swept Away; Tourist Booked
What started as a casual beachside outing quickly spiraled into a tense rescue operation when an SUV got stranded dangerously close to the sea at Goa’s Vagator beach, drawing attention both online and among local authorities. The incident unfolded early Sunday morning at Vagator Beach in the Anjuna region. A Toyota Fortuner with Gujarat registration was reportedly driven onto the sandy stretch, where it soon became stuck and unable to move.
Trouble escalated as the tide began to rise, with seawater entering the vehicle and increasing the risk. The situation required intervention, and a JCB machine was eventually brought in to pull the SUV out safely from the waterlogged sand. Police later identified the owner as 22-year-old Arjun Singh Rawat. Authorities stated that the vehicle had been driven in a negligent and unsafe manner onto the beach and into the water, violating regulations and posing a threat to public safety.
Following the incident, Anjuna Police registered a case under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and Central Motor Vehicles Rules have also been invoked. The owner, however, claimed he was not driving at the time. He stated that the vehicle had been handed over to hotel staff for cleaning. Police clarified that responsibility will be determined based on who was actually behind the wheel, and further investigation is underway.
Officials noted that such incidents are becoming increasingly frequent, with tourists ignoring restrictions and driving vehicles onto beaches. These actions create risks not only for those driving but also for beachgoers and local residents. Driving on beaches in India is largely prohibited. The only widely recognized exception is Muzhappilangad Beach, where beach driving is officially allowed under controlled conditions.
