Army officers and personnel have shown a spontaneous response to the ‘Voter Mela’ programme organized by the Southern Command Headquarters and 214- Pune Cantonment Vidhan Sabha Constituency Voter Registration Office.

The event aimed at facilitating the new voter registration of army officers and personnel, and voter registration of jawans who have migrated or transferred to Pune. The event also included registering the officers and employees, along with their families in the voter list.

The Deputy Collector and Voter Registration Officer, Siddharth Bhandare informed that the program was organized as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India under the Short Voter List Re-organization Campaign. The event is intended to address the issue of non-enrollment in the electoral roll of army officers and personnel stationed in various regional locations for national duty.

The event witnessed the registration of Major General Tarandeep Singh Bains of the Southern Command enrolled in the voter list. The event was supported and guided by Major General Yogesh Chaudhary and Brigadier Kutty of Southern Command. The registration work on behalf of the Collectorate was taken care of by Sudhir Lipare, Ravindra Phatare, Balasaheb Chavan, and others.

The event received an overwhelming response from the army officers and personnel who were grateful for the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. The event was successful in enabling the new voter registration and updating the voter list of the army officers, personnel, and their families. The next month, District Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh will be overseeing the voter registration process.
