Wakad : PCMC Commissioner and political leaders pledge to resolve Datta Mandir road issues
In a notable development, 27 housing societies situated on Datta Mandir Road in Wakad actively engaged in a meeting to address the persistent concern of a narrow 45-meter road. The gathering, attended by PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, BJP Pimpri Chinchwad City President Shankar Jagtap, and ex-corporator Vinayak Gaikwad, concluded with an optimistic outlook on resolving the road width issue.
Commissioner Singh and local leaders reassured the residents of promptly acquiring the missing 45-meter wide road land in the coming days. The combined efforts of the chairpersons and secretaries of the societies along this road are expected to yield positive results soon.
Faced with the urgency of the matter, the societies issued an ultimatum for agitation if the issue remained unresolved. Sachin Londhe, Vice President of the Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation and also representing the Wakad Datta Mandir Road Cooperative Housing Societies Group, had previously warned of protests if a decision wasn’t reached by the end of January 2024. The recent positive response from the federation’s meeting indicates a potential resolution on the horizon.
City Engineer (Civil) of PCMC, Makarand Nikam, had informed about ongoing efforts to expedite land acquisition and initiate road construction before the upcoming rainy season. While hope is rekindled for the residents of Datta Mandir Road, the complexity of the task ahead raises questions about how PCMC will manage this significant undertaking.
Prajwal Zende, Chairman, Capriccio, Wakad, said “The outcome of the meeting was positive. All required personnel were there for the meeting such as PCMC Commissioner, engineers of PCMC, ex corporators etc. The intent was very clear. The Commissioner instructed the staff to remove all encroachments & obstructions within 15 days’ time i.e. end of January. The PCMC Commissioner has assured on-ground action to us.”
Rohit Sawant, Treasurer, Costa Rica, Wakad, said “We just had one request of developing the Datta Mandir Road as per the DP plan. Accordingly, the PCMC Commissioner instructed relevant officials to immediately acquire the required land for road widening. Hence, the outcome of the meeting was positive as now it seems that the road will be widened as per DP plan. Currently, the road is 24 meters wide in which there are 2 carriageways. If it is widened to 45 meters, there would be 3 carriageways where one will be allotted for parking & other 2 will remain for traffic flow.”
