Waqf Registration Crisis: UMEED Portal Down Since Morning, Public Demands Immediate Extension of Dec 5 Deadline
New Delhi, 22 November 2025 – The Central government’s UMEED portal, meant for mandatory online registration of all Waqf properties under the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, remained completely non-functional throughout Friday, triggering widespread panic among Waqf institutions and Mutawallis across the country.
Users reported that the portal has been showing errors since early morning, with many unable to log in, upload documents, or complete registrations. This is not the first instance – similar technical glitches have plagued the portal repeatedly over the past weeks.
With barely two weeks left for the strict deadline of 5 December 2025, thousands of Waqf properties now risk missing the cut-off due to no fault of their own.
Speaking to reporters outside a major Waqf office in Delhi, citizens and representatives of Waqf bodies voiced strong frustration:

> “The government cannot penalise us for its own portal failure. The UMEED portal has been down since morning and has been unstable for weeks. We demand that the Ministry of Minority Affairs immediately extend the 5th December deadline by at least one year and issue a public notification confirming the extension. No Waqf institution should face consequences because of technical issues beyond our control.”

Similar demands echoed from Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Kerala, where local Waqf bodies have written urgent letters to the Ministry and State Waqf Boards.
Telangana C.M. Revanna Reddy have also demanded extension by an official letter to Central Government.
Jamiat Ulema e Hinds Mufti Shahid and Muslim personal law boards Zahid shaikh along with a delegation submitted a request under leadership of Adv. Sameer Shaikh to Prime minister and other central ministers through Collector pune demanding extention of due date.
As of now, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has not issued any official statement regarding the portal outage or possibility of extending the deadline.
