Over 15 societies located in Parge Nagar, Kondhwa area are battling through severe water scarcity. The societies informed Pune Pulse that the low pressure in the water line is prompting them to procure water tankers.

Pravin Mandlik, chairman, Sobha Ivory informed that the society is not receiving water for the last 45 days with adequate pressure. The need for procuring tankers has gone up from 2 to 3 tankers to 10 tankers a day. We have been told that there is some issue with the pressure, but how long do we have to rely on private water tankers when we are getting decent water from the PMC?

Mohammad Imran, secretary, Alcon Royce stated that the societies in the vicinity are suddenly relying heavily on private water tankers. Seeing the demand, they have started charging more. The PMC water department has not been able to resolve our issue.

The societies are forced to buy even drinking water jars to manage the food and drinking water requirements.

When Pune Pulse spoke to Amiruddha Pawaskar, head, Water supply department, Pune Municipal Corporation he informed that a complaint was received today after which inspection on the water line has been conducted. The pressure for the next four days will be monitored to ascertain the cause of erratic supply. Yesterday being the weekly water cut day, the pressure today (friday) must have been disturbed. I have asked the concerned area representative of the department to look into the matter.

Azhar Qureshi, Chairman, Kumar Palmgrove said, “Since last month we have been having erratic water supply, water pressure is very low at least for 3 days in a week, which is causing us a lot of inconvenience, Water tankers have exponentially increased in our society for the last 2 months, which is putting a burden on our expenses. Yesterday also we received water with low pressure for very less time. We have 306 residential flats.”
