Weather Update : Orange alert issued for Pune district with heavy rainfall : IMD

Indian Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for Pune District with heavy rainfall in ghat areas of northern taluka of the district, especially tomorrow night. 

Accordingly, as per the Pune District Disaster Mitigation Plan, local authorities have been instructed to assess the prevalent risks and to take necessary precautions. 

“All Hospitals have been adequately staffed and stocked with necessary medicines. Ambulance are functional and have full fuel. Officials have been asked to stay in Headquarters and stay on alert. Taluka Officials would be inspecting readiness today,” informed Ayush Prasad, CEO, Pune Zilla Parishad. 

Instructions have been issued to ensure roads to be kept clear and to be in constant communication.

The weather forecasting department informed, “The systems that are making  monsoon active to vigorous in Maharashtra. Yesterday’s low pressure area over north Odisha, adjoining GWB & Jharkhand has become less marked. However, the associated upper air cyclonic circulation now lies over south Jharkhand & neighbourhood. A shear zone(low pressure  line/resha runs roughly along Lat. 20° N  tilting southwards with height. Moreover, A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal within 48 hours.” 

Weather Prediction : 

Light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to continue over Maharashtra State (except Marathwada) during next 5 days. 

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely over Konkan & Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 19th July.Â
