This weekend, Mumbai is currently experiencing unexpected rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for the city, along with the nearby districts of Thane and Palghar.

This alert indicates that thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph), are highly likely to occur at a few places.

As per the information provided, Mumbai saw light showers and thunder during the early hours of Sunday morning. The rain, along with a refreshing cool breeze, led to a drop in temperatures across the city.

According to officials from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Colaba observatory, representing south Mumbai, recorded 9.2 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz observatory, representing the suburbs, recorded 5.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

As per the information received, a trough has formed along the Bay of Bengal coast, leading to expected rainfall activities in Mumbai and nearby areas. This trough is currently moving towards the Maharashtra coastline, which could potentially bring rain to various coastal districts, including certain parts of the Mumbai metropolitan region. The anticipated rain is also expected to contribute to an improvement in the city’s air quality.

Previously, on November 9, several areas in Mumbai, such as Mulund, Malad, and Goregaon, as well as Kalyan, Dombivli, Thane, and parts of Navi Mumbai, experienced a brief period of heavy rainfall.
