West Bengal wins overall title in National Finswimming Championship

Pune: West Bengal bagged 90 medals including 32 gold medals in the 2nd National Finswimming Championship organized by Underwater Sports Federation of India at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Mhalunge- Balewadi from 9 to 11 December 2022.

Kerala finished second with 44 medals with 17 gold medals while Telangana finished third with 34 medals with 16 gold medals. While Maharashtra had to settle for 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.The second National Finswimming Championship Pune 2022 organized by the Underwater Sports Federation of India (USFI) concluded on Sunday.

On this occasion, State Higher and Technical Education Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune District Chandrakant Dada Patil, General Secretary of Underwater Sports Federation of India and Dronacharya Award winning National Coach Dr. Tapan Kumar Panigrahi, Roll Ball State Association President Sandeep Khardekar, Abhishek Lonkar, Achinta Pandit (Treasurer USFI), Rear Admiral PD Sharma (President RLSS (I), Dr. Neeraj Adkar of Saishri Hospital etc. were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandrakant Patil said that finswimming should get a reputation as the sport for which it is played, so that more athletes should play finswimming, he will cooperate with the competition to be held in Pune in the future. Patil said, rollball started from Pune and the competition is being organized at national as well as international level. Its popularity is increasing day by day. To encourage sportsmen in the state, 25 marks are given to the sportsmen studying in class 10th and 12th for jobs in government departments. The state government is trying to promote sports in the state.

More than 1000 players and coaches, technical officials from more than 300 districts from 34 states, Union Territories have participated in this tournament.More than 1000 players and coaches, technical officials from more than 300 districts from 34 states, Union Territories have participated in this tournament.In this event, Smita Rajan Katve of Maharashtra won gold medal in Masters V2 Women’s category, Sabyasachi Panigrahi won silver medal in 50m Monofin and Nia Patange, Junior D Girl, won bronze medal in 50m Surface (Mono Fin).
