WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform with billions of users worldwide, is introducing a new feature that allows users to set voice messages up to a minute long as status updates. This new functionality, which doubles the previous limit of 30 seconds, is currently available to those using the latest beta version of the app on both Android and iOS.

The extended voice note duration is designed to help users who prefer sharing status updates in the form of voice messages. With this update, users will no longer need to split their audio recordings into multiple parts, thereby saving time and making the communication process more convenient.

To use this new feature, users need to ensure they have the latest beta version of WhatsApp installed. They can then open the app, navigate to the ‘Updates’ tab, and tap on the pencil-like icon. From there, they need to tap on the microphone icon on the bottom right of the screen to record and set a voice note as a status update.

This feature is currently limited to a handful of users on the latest beta and is expected to roll out to more beta testers in the coming days. However, it remains unclear when it will be available to all users on the stable version of the app.

In recent weeks, WhatsApp has been constantly testing and adding new features. These include the ability to set AI-generated photos as profile pictures, prevent users from taking screenshots of profile pictures on iPhones, and a redesigned voice call user interface.

Steps:

• To use the new feature, users need to simply go to the status update section and tap the pencil icon placed at the bottom right of the screen.

• Now tap and hold the mic icon and start recording, similar to the voice notes in chats.

• If the user wants to cancel the recording midway then they can simply slide to cancel.

• After completing the recording, tap on the send button to update your one-minute-long voice-note-driven status.

The introduction of minute-long voice messages as status updates is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience by providing more flexible and secure communication options.
