Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has expedited the work of the Katraj-Kondhwa Road widening as land near Tilekar Nagar has been acquired.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sahebrao Dandge, Superintendent Engineer, PMC said, “Around 60 gunthas of land has been acquired from a notable personality Prakash Dhariwal which is on the eastern side of Tilekar Nagar in Kondhwa Budruk. Some more land acquisitions are pending for the road widening purpose which will happen soon after which major hurdles will be surpassed for the road widening part on Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Already, the road widening work near Tilekar Nagar has begun. The opposite lane of the road of Tilekar Nagar is already widened. When you face the Katraj side, the underpass work on the right-hand side is going on very rapidly. When the rest of the required land is acquired, the work will gain more speed till Khadi Machine Chowk. Hence, the entire road from Tilekar Nagar to Khadi Machine Chowk will be widened & made an 84-meter road.”

As per further information shared by Dandge, another 84-meter-wide road from Kanha Hotel to Khadi Machine Chowk is planned to be constructed & widened. The land acquisition for that as well is going on.

Once the paperwork was done and the land was acquired, construction work started right away. The state government had given a Rs 200 crore fund to build the road, which had been delayed for a long time because of land acquisition issues in the past. This has resulted in a lot of traffic and accidents on the road.

The PMC kept in constant contact with the landowners to get the land. Most of them were willing to contribute land for the project.
