Winter Weakens in Pune as Temperatures Rise; Air Quality Turns ‘Unhealthy’

Pune, 25 November 2025: The winter chill in Pune has reduced as both day and night temperatures have increased. After a short cold spell last week, the city’s maximum temperature has reached 31.3°C, while the minimum has gone up to 17.4°C.

The rise in temperature is mainly due to cloudy weather linked to Cyclone Senyar, which has covered much of western Maharashtra. The cloud cover has prevented the winter cold from settling in, making the weather unusually warm for this time of year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted similar conditions for Tuesday, with minimum temperatures likely to remain around 18°C.

However, while temperatures are rising, air quality has worsened. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Pune’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 158, which falls under the “unhealthy” category. This level may cause discomfort, especially for people with asthma or other respiratory problems.

Although Punekars are getting temporary relief from the cold, the increasing pollution levels have become a new concern for the city.
