World Environment Day : PMC bags third while PCMC bags first prize in Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 3.0 initiative

Nariman Point, 6th June 2023: The Department of Environment and Climate Change in Maharashtra marked World Environment Day by organizing a grand event at the prestigious National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point. 

The purpose of this event was to acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by environmental activists and conservationists. A special highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards to local self-government bodies for their exceptional performance in the esteemed ‘Mazi Vasundhara Abhiyan 3.0’ initiative.

Noteworthy among the recipients were the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The PCMC secured the top position, while the PMC achieved an impressive third place in the category of cities with a population exceeding 10 lakhs within the Amrit group.

The ‘Mazi Vasundhara Abhiyan 3.0’ initiative was launched on October 2, 2020, by the Department of Environment and Climate Change. The campaign focuses on harnessing the power of the five elements of nature to enhance the environment across local bodies throughout Maharashtra.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, State Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai, MLAs Sanjay Gaikwad and Rajendra Raut, Principal Secretary of the Environment and Climate Change Department Praveen Darade, High Commissioner of Switzerland Martin Mayer, and Abasaheb Jarhad, among others.
