Students lock mess gates and start a signature campaign demanding better food.

Pune: A worm was found in the food served at the refectory of Savitribai Phule Pune University on January 4th night. Students said that such incidents have happened earlier, as well.

After the worm was found and the mess owner didn’t take it seriously, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Council locked the gates of the mess.

A sA signature campaign was carried out after the incident, in which nearly 400 students signed and protested  about the bad food quality. The students demanded that the present mess owner should be removed, a committee should be appointed  which would include student representatives and the food quality should be improved.

“This is not the first time when a worm is found in the food. Earlier too students have complained about the food to the mess owner but he does not take the matter seriously,” said Mahadev Ranga, ABVP’s Pune University, president.

He added, “We spoke to the college registrar regarding the issue. He said the tender of the mess owner will be rejected.”
