Wow! Uber Driver-Turned-Entrepreneur Seeks 1,000 Users for Translation App, Gains Traction with Help from Riders
San Francisco Uber driver promotes his innovative translation app, TransChatMe, during rides, seeking user support to pitch it to investors.
An ordinary Uber ride in San Francisco became an inspiring encounter when a passenger discovered that their driver, Frederico Coutrim, wasn’t just offering transportation—he was driving forward his entrepreneurial dream. Coutrim, who founded TransChatMe, an app designed to translate messages in real-time, used the ride as a platform to promote his app. He placed a poster in the car asking for help in reaching 1,000 downloads so he could pitch his idea to investors.
Intrigued, the passenger struck up a conversation with Coutrim, learning more about the app and the challenges of building a startup. The passenger’s friend, Resham Khanna, was so impressed by the driver’s determination that she shared a photo of the poster on X (formerly Twitter), asking her network to support the initiative. The app, TransChatMe, aims to simplify communication by automatically translating messages without requiring users to copy and paste text, offering a smooth, user-friendly experience.
Coutrim’s unique approach worked wonders. In less than 24 hours, the post went viral, and TransChatMe gained over 200 new users. Coutrim personally reached out to Khanna via email, expressing his heartfelt thanks for her support. He wrote, “I have no words to describe how grateful I am for your support. We have reached more than 200 new users in the last 24 hours, thanks to your kindness.”
He also shared how the post had “shined a light in a dark time” for him, giving him renewed energy to keep moving forward with the project. His dedication to the app was clear in his efforts, as he had included two QR codes on the poster—one for Android and one for iOS—making it easy for passengers to download the app on the spot.
As Coutrim’s story continues to spread, he hopes to reach his 1,000-user goal soon, a milestone he believes will help him secure investment and take, TransChatMe to the next level. His journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and creative thinking, proving that innovation can come from the most unexpected places—even the backseat of an Uber.
