A woman was seen engaging in a heated argument with Kolkata Metro passengers for speaking Bengali, as reported in a post on X. The video captures her urging others to converse in Hindi, claiming that West Bengal is part of India and that people should learn Hindi. She emphasized that the passengers were not in Bangladesh but in India.

“You are not in Bangladesh; you are in India. West Bengal is a part of India, and you must learn Hindi,” the woman stated in the video shared by Abhinaba Pal on November 19. She further questioned, “You know how to speak Bengali, but you don’t know how to speak English even after living in India?” Another woman, who was recording the incident, sharply replied, “I live in West Bengal, not your land,” expressing her disappointment at being insulted in her own state.

The woman ridiculing the female traveler stated, “The Metro is not yours, West Bengal is not yours.” In the midst of this language dispute, the person filming the incident responded, emphasizing, “West Bengal is mine, the metro is mine; it is developed from a share of my tax payments and not your money,” after being labeled a Bangladeshi by the woman.

Regarding the national language of India, the mocking woman asserted, “What’s the language of India? Hindi.” She even threatened to take legal action against the woman recording the video.

“I’ll file a case against her, I’ll sue her. She is recording me without my permission,” she declared.

Pal also shared another video featuring a man who suggested that those wanting to speak Bengali should go to Bangladesh instead. This sparked a discussion about the fact that India does not have a national language.

Pal shared both videos on social media, emphasizing that Hindi is not the national language of India and that there isn’t a single language designated as such. Pal also called for an end to the mocking of languages.

“Hindi is not our national language. For the matter of fact, there is no designated national language of India. This false notion and mockery of other languages should stop,” Pal stated.

Tathagoto pointed out that the Eastern state has been tolerant for many years but suggested it may be time for a “Maharashtrian style treatment.”

He expressed that all immigrants from other states should be required to learn the local language of the state they move to. He noted that Bengal has been tolerant of people from the north, even though they have often mocked the locals and avoided learning Bengali. He suggested that a “Maharashtra style treatment” is necessary to handle these individuals, in response to the video shared on Instagram.

Vivek responded to the video, comparing the mindset to that of Jinnah and Zulfiqar Bhutto of Pakistan.

“This lady has the same mindset of Jinnah & Zulfiqar Bhutto of Pakistan, which resulted in the creation of Pakistan. Why should Bengali/Tamilian/Punjabi have to stop talking in their state when any Hindiwalas come to their state? Those states are contributing more to India than Hindivalas,” Vivek commented on Pal’s post.
