A young boy lost his life while swimming at the Bapusaheb Kedari swimming pool in Wanowrie on Sunday March 20. The exact cause of the death is still unknown.

The local residents and other swimming pool users complained that the pool was full to its capacity, the life guards were not around and the tubes were found deflated too.

The swimmers complained that the responsibility of looking after the people lies with the contractor.

A resident of the area said, “It is a very unfortunate incident. The swimmers as well as the management must take equal responsibility to safeguard life. The contractor who has been given the job should ensure that the swimmers have a safe place with adequate life saving techniques.”

When Pune Pulse tried contacting the swimming pool contractor they remained unavailable.

The pool manager informed that the lifeguards were around the pool and being Sunday it had more attendance of the swimmers.

Santosh Varule, sports department, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “PMC will issue a notice to the contractor and demand an explanation. The exact cause is still unknown. “
