Pune: A tragic accident claimed the life of 26-year-old Mansi Ashok Pawar, a resident of Ambegaon Pathar, at Katraj Chowk on the morning of September 17, marking the third fatal accident in the area in recent days.

Mansi was riding her Vespa scooter towards Katraj-Kondhwa Road when she was struck by a tanker at around 6:30 AM. The collision was so severe that she died on the spot. This incident has heightened concerns among local residents who are already frustrated by the rising number of road fatalities in the area.

In the past few days, two more lives were lost in accidents near Katraj Chowk, including a PMPML contract worker and another young woman, further intensifying the call for improved road safety measures.

Anger and fear are mounting as locals demand swift action to address these ongoing accidents. Many are questioning the authorities’ inaction in making the roads safer, with calls for immediate measures to prevent further tragedies.

Mansi’s body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem examination. An investigation has been initiated by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police. Assistant Police Inspector Sameer Shende confirmed the accident and assured that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the tanker driver responsible.

Meanwhile, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally begun the long-awaited land acquisition for the Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project.
