Young Woman Rescued After Falling Into Gorge Following Bike Accident at Sinhagad Ghat
Pune, May 23: A serious road accident was reported on Saturday morning in the Sinhagad Ghat area near Khadakwasla, where a two-wheeler collided with a roadside barricade, causing a young woman to plunge into a deep gorge while the rider suffered severe injuries.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10 am on a sharp curve in the ghat section. According to initial reports, the rider lost control of the motorcycle before crashing into the protective barrier. The impact threw the pillion rider into the valley, while the rider collapsed on the roadside in a critical condition.
As soon as the information reached local authorities, members of the forest committee and disaster management team rushed to the location and launched a rescue operation. Risking their own safety, rescuers climbed down into the gorge and managed to safely retrieve the injured woman.
The victims have been identified as Pooja Chakane and Saurabh Pasalkar. Pooja reportedly sustained serious injuries to her leg and is suspected to have suffered multiple fractures. Saurabh suffered severe head injuries, with bleeding reported from his nose and ears.
Forest department official Samadhan Patil informed the rescue team and alerted the Haveli police about the accident. Several local volunteers, including Shantaram Londhe, Tanaji Khatpe, Amit Jadhav, Sandeep Sanap, Bhanudas Zorekar and Dhanraj Sambare, actively participated in the rescue efforts.
Disaster management unit chief Tanaji Bhosale and police patil Ganesh Sapkal later arrived at the scene to supervise the operation. Since the ambulance faced delays in reaching the hilly area, the injured were immediately transported in a private Scorpio vehicle to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Following requests from family members, both injured persons were later shifted to Bharati Hospital in Pune for advanced medical care. Haveli police have registered the case and further investigation into the accident is currently underway.
Locals in the region appreciated the swift response of the forest guards and rescue personnel, saying their timely action helped prevent a much bigger tragedy in the dangerous ghat terrain.
