Maharashtra is currently facing a rise in Zika virus cases, a viral illness transmitted by mosquitoes. The first case was identified in Pune in June, and since then, additional cases have emerged in various regions, including Pimpri Chinchwad, Ahilyanagar, Solapur, Kolhapur, Dadar, and Sangli. The total number of reported cases in the state has now reached 138.

Current Zika Virus Statistics in Maharashtra:

  • Total Cases: 138
  • Cases in Pune: 108
  • Cases in Pimpri Chinchwad: 6
  • Cases in Rural Pune: 9
  • Houses Screened: 171,000
  • Blood Samples Tested: 798
  • Pregnant Women Tested: 715
  • Positive Cases Among Pregnant Women: 45

The Health Department has reassured the public that hospitalization is generally not required for Zika virus cases, emphasizing that there is no need for alarm. However, individuals experiencing symptoms are advised to seek medical attention promptly, preferably at government hospitals, to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.

As the situation develops, health officials continue to monitor the spread of the virus and implement measures to control mosquito populations in affected areas. Residents are encouraged to take preventive measures against mosquito bites to protect themselves and their families.
