Pune Vidhan Sabha 2024: Shivajinagar Prepares for a Competitive Election Battle in 2024
As the 2024 Assembly elections approach, Shivajinagar is set for an intriguing electoral contest, featuring strong candidates from both the Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi alliances. The Vanchit Bahujan Vikas Aghadi appears to have lost some momentum compared to previous elections, setting the stage for a closely watched race.
In the 2014 elections, BJP’s Vijay Kale achieved a decisive victory, leading by nearly 20,000 votes against Congress’s Vinayak Nimhan, with additional votes going to candidates from the NCP, Shiv Sena, and MNS. The 2019 elections saw BJP’s Siddharth Shirbole face off against Congress’s Datta Bahirat. The presence of Anil Kunhade from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi significantly impacted Congress’s performance, ultimately aiding BJP’s victory. MNS’s Suhas Nimhan struggled to gain traction, reflecting the shifting political dynamics in the constituency.
In the last election, Siddharth Shirbole secured victory with the backing of former MP Sanjay Kakade and ex-MLAs Vinayak Nimhan and Anil Bhosale. His ability to attract several former Congress leaders weakened the campaign of Congress candidate Datta Bahirat, who, despite support from the Nationalist Congress Party, lost by a margin of 5,000 votes. The 2019 election results revealed Shirbole receiving 58,727 votes, while Bahirat garnered 53,603 votes, with other candidates like Anil Kurhade from Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and Suhas Nimhan from MNS receiving significantly fewer votes.
Looking ahead to the upcoming elections, the competition is expected to intensify. Congress is set to field multiple candidates, including Deepali Chaudhari and Datta Bahirat, while the BJP will likely present contenders such as Shirbole and Nivedita Ekbote. Other parties, including MNS and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, may also enter the fray, although their influence in the constituency remains uncertain.
As Shivajinagar gears up for this electoral showdown, all eyes will be on the candidates and their strategies as they vie for voter support in a rapidly changing political landscape.
