1800 CCTV cameras to be installed during Ganeshotsav in Pune

Pune : Ganeshotsav, a glorious tradition in Pune, is attended by people from different parts of the state, as well as the country. Hence, to monitor everything effectively, 1800 CCTV cameras in Pune City will keep an eye on the festive crowd.

As per information, Pune police have instructed the workers of Ganesh mandals to install CCTV cameras in the mandap area. In order to prevent untoward incidents, theft of jewellery and mobile phones during the festival period and in the background of possible crime activities, appropriate arrangements have been planned under the guidance of Commissioner of Pune Police Ritesh Kumar & Joint Commissioner of Pune Police Sandeep Karnik. Strict security will be maintained in the city during the festival.

Local police station personnel, Crime Branch teams, Damini squads formed for the safety of women, etc. will be patrolling different areas of the city. 1,300 cameras installed by Pune Police & 500 CCTV cameras of the Pune Municipal Corporation, under Smart City Scheme, will keep an eye on the festive crowd.

There are several registered public Ganeshotsav mandals in the city. The police have spoken to the office bearers of the board that mandals must install CCTV cameras in the mandap area during the festival period. Police have appealed to install CCTV cameras to prioritize the safety of devotees. Instructions have also been given to install cameras on the roads around the Mandap.

Between Budhwar Chowk in Shivaji Road area to Gotiram Bhaiyya Chowk in Mandai, there is a huge crowd of devotees during the festival. There will remain a huge crowd of devotees in all other areas too. Thus, police will be able to control the crowd through CCTV cameras by taking into account the crowd in Shivaji Road, Bajirao Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road, Laxmi Road, Ferguson Road, Jungali Maharaj Road, Deccan Gymkhana area etc.

Shopkeepers & businessmen in interior areas of Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth, Shukrawar Peth area have installed CCTV cameras.
