Pune: On August 16, a 50-year-old woman from Hadapsar died after falling from an autorickshaw near Thermax Chowk in Nigdi. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her husband has lodged a complaint against the autorickshaw driver with the Nigdi police, who have filed a case under sections 106(2) [causing death by negligent driving] and 281 (rash driving on public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Assistant Inspector Tanaji Kadam from Nigdi police reported that the accident occurred around 7 a.m. The woman, along with two others, was traveling from Khandobamal Chowk to Thermax Chowk when she fell from the vehicle and lost consciousness. She was transported to the hospital, where she later died.

The police are investigating whether the woman had a medical issue that led to her fainting before falling out of the vehicle. They are awaiting the detailed post-mortem report. Kadam noted that the road between Khandobamal Chowk and Thermax Chowk has potholes and speed breakers. According to the complainant, the autorickshaw hit a pothole, causing the woman to fall. The police are reviewing CCTV footage and will also interview local witnesses. Further actions will be determined based on the investigation’s findings.
