Pune: Army Doctor Duped Of ₹1.22 Crore By Cyber Scammers
Cyber Fraudsters Dupe Pune Based Private Firm Employee Of Rs 16.5 Lakh In Fake CBI Case
A doctor from a prominent army medical college has fallen prey to a lucrative stock market investment scam, losing ₹1.22 crore to cyber crooks. The doctor filed a complaint at the cyber police station, prompting an investigation under the Fraud and Information Technology Act.
The scam began with a message sent to the doctor’s mobile phone, promising attractive returns on investment in the stock market. The perpetrators invited the doctor to join a WhatsApp group and download a mobile app. Believing the promise, the doctor deposited funds into the provided bank account.
The scammers then falsely claimed that the investment yielded a profit of ₹10.26 crore. However, when the doctor attempted to withdraw the amount, they were informed that a 5% fee would be deducted from the profit. The thieves stalled the withdrawal process, prompting the doctor to file a complaint.
The police are urging citizens to remain cautious when investing online.
