The Election Commission of India (ECI) is scheduled to announce the election dates for Maharashtra and Jharkhand today at 3:30 PM. This follows the recent conclusion of elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.
Maharashtra’s current legislative assembly term will end on November 26, while Jharkhand’s assembly term will expire on January 5, 2025. In the 2019 elections, Maharashtra had a single-phase polling, whereas Jharkhand conducted its elections in five phases.
In Maharashtra, the ruling coalition Mahayuti — the BJP, the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party — will be up against the Maha Vikas Aghadi, the alliance of the Congress and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (NCP-SP) and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT).
