Saurav Ganguly has expressed his confidence in Bumrah, saying, “He will make an excellent captain as he has a strong understanding of the game.“
In light of the uncertainty surrounding Rohit Sharma’s leadership for India in the opening match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced his confidence in the abilities of pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah to captain the team in Perth against Australia.
Rohit’s availability remains uncertain following the recent arrival of his second child. Various indications point towards his potential absence, with recent reports suggesting that it is quite improbable for Rohit to participate in the toss in Perth.
India’s star player, Bumrah, has been named as Rohit’s vice-captain following the announcement of the squad for the challenging five-Test series. The 30-year-old brings valuable experience from his time as captain of the Indian team, having previously led the squad in a match against England in Birmingham in 2022.
In a quest for a reliable death overs bowler, the Indian team found a gem in Jasprit Bumrah, who emerged as a significant talent during the Indian Premier League.
This slender pacer from Gujarat has mastered the skill of delivering precise yorkers, learning from the legendary Lasith Malinga while playing for the Mumbai Indians. Bumrah has evolved into a crucial player for the Indian team in limited-overs cricket.
“From what I have seen of him, he looks involved, reads the game well, and bowls in the right areas under pressure in white-ball cricket, which tells you he is thinking the right things. So Bumrah should be a good leader for sure. And needless to say, he is a very important player for India. He will be the leader of that attack, and in good bowling conditions, he can have a defining impact on the series,” says Ganguly.
