President Droupadi Murmu Directs Maharashtra Government To Act On Dhayari DP Road Issue

Pune, December 17, 2024: President Droupadi Murmu has instructed Maharashtra’s Chief Secretary to expedite action on the long-pending Development Plan (DP) road issues in Dhayari village. This directive follows a formal representation made by Dhananjay Benkar, the Pune city president of the Aam Aadmi Party, along with local residents.  

The DP roads in Dhayari have remained incomplete for 28 years, causing severe traffic congestion and hardships for residents. Despite repeated appeals to the municipal and state authorities, no substantial progress had been made until now. Taking cognizance of the grievances, President Murmu has requested an update on the matter and has also sent a letter to Benkar acknowledging the issue.  

Key Details of the Issue: 

– Pending DP Road: Savitri Garden to Sinhagad Road  

– Accident-Prone and Congested Routes: Dhayari to Narhe, Nanded Phata to Nanded City Gate, and Lagad Mala to Dhayari Phata  

– 28-Year Delay: Initial DP road plans were drafted decades ago, with incomplete land acquisition and minimal progress since.  

– Funds Misused: Despite crores spent, only 400 meters of the Savitri Garden-Sinhagad Road stretch has been developed in the past five years.  

– Traffic Chaos: Lack of proper road infrastructure, signals, and traffic wardens has worsened the situation.  

Community Protest and Persistent Advocacy:

Residents, led by Benkar and supported by community members such as Sunny Raikar, Nilesh Damishte, Vikas Kamthe, and others, staged a hunger strike at Azad Maidan. They expressed frustration over administrative inaction despite 75 follow-ups with municipal authorities, the state government, and even the President and Prime Minister.  

President’s Intervention: 

In response to the citizens’ plea, President Murmu has urged the state government to resolve the DP road issues and ensure relief to the affected residents. Her directive has raised hopes that the long-pending projects will finally see completion.  

Significance of the DP Roads:  

The completion of the planned roads is essential to decongest traffic and improve connectivity in and around Dhayari village, which is currently plagued by severe bottlenecks.  

With the President’s involvement, residents anticipate swift action from the state government to resolve this decades-old issue.
