In a significant move, the Ministry of Railways has announced that Tatkal tickets can now be booked online only by passengers whose Aadhaar cards are e-verified. Tatkal tickets are a popular last-minute option for travelers, especially during festivals, holidays, and emergencies, when the demand for confirmed train tickets reaches its peak. However, over the years, this facility has often been exploited by touts and agents, making it harder for genuine passengers to secure tickets.
To address this issue, the Railway Ministry has now mandated that online Tatkal booking will be restricted to users who have completed Aadhaar e-authentication. This move is expected to bring more transparency and accountability to the ticketing system.
